Ayup people,
I’m not even gonna apologies for a lack of blog posts-life has simply got in the way!
2018 in short has been great!
The year’s highlights included a sell-out run of shows for the production of ‘Man-Up’, which I worked on with Restoke. A film of the production is forthcoming, hit this link for more info: https://www.restoke.org.uk/man-up/
I also got asked by my beloved Derby County FC to write a new motivational poem at the request of none other than Frank Lampard. The poem ‘We Are Derby’ has been featured on the big screen at Pride Park at every home game since 21st August! I’ll post a link to the Steve Bloomer’s washing podcast of me reading the poem in the video/audio section of this website. Here’s an interview I did with Owen Bradley for RAMS TV here: https://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/2018/09/meet-the-local-poet-behind-we-are-derby
My other major highlight of the year was winning my first award with my musical project Bloque Capitals when we were one of the joint-winners of the Culture Matters 2018 award for spoken word and musical collaboration. This award far surpasses any literary award for me personally as it directly relates to the output of working class artists! Here’s the link here: http://www.culturematters.org.uk/index.php/arts/music/item/2789-bread-and-roses-songwriting-and-spoken-word-award
Gig-wise I’ve done plenty, highlights include my appearance at ‘The Other Place’ Royal Shakespeare venue and Verve Poetry Festival. I’m happy to say I’ve got plenty of exciting gigs already booked for 2019 (Info to come in due course)
I’ve been lucky enough to hold over 100 workshops this year in schools, prisons, museums, colleges, universities, etc. If you want me to come and visit your place in 2019 hit me up on: info@jthras.com
Creatively at the minute I’m still putting the finishing touches to my next poetry collection ‘Our Man’, which will be published in 2019 through the awesome Burning Eye books!
I’ll also be touring the book as a show so if you want to book me get in there quick as this next one if gonna pop off like a pog-war!
