World Book Day 2019:

World Book Day 2017:

“It was a pleasure to have Jamie Thrasivoulou in school. He was enthusiastic and extremely knowledgable about poetry, relating it in an accessible way to the students. A group of reluctant boys who happily told us at the start that poetry was ‘boring’ all engaged with tasks and, without exception produced some thoughtful work by the end of the session.”

Abbot Beyne Secondary School (2020)

“When Jamie visited our school in March 2020 he had the whole place buzzing. He works in an engaging and approachable way and got our students to create some fantastic poetry which they later performed in an assembly. Jamie showed that he has the skills and knowledge to engage even our most disengaged learners.”

Woodbridge Primary School (2020)

“Every one of the 7 individual year groups that Jamie came to work with on National poetry Day 2018- were completely enthused and thoroughly excited about using language and developing poems. The children were still talking about his visit weeks later.”

Herbert Strutt primary School (2018)

“When Jamie came in to work with our year 8, 9, and 10’s their initial reaction to having a poet in the room was hesitant to say the least. By the end of the sessions Jamie had got the class excited about using language to articulate their stories and experiences. Jamie has a way of engaging pupils and encouraging them to step outside of their comfort zones.”

Noel Baker L. E. A. D. Academy (2018)

“Jamie Thrasivoulou ran a series of workshops during our summer 2017 NCS programme, and was outstanding, I’d highly recommend him. Throughout the summer, Jamie worked with just under 600 of Derby’s young people, introducing spoken word to them, changing perceptions of poetry and raising their aspirations in the process. His work is relevant and engaging. Our young people consistently named his session as one of the favourite sessions of our entire NCS programme. Each week, I regularly saw our participants enter the session with trepidation but they always left eager to share their work and talk about how much they had enjoyed it – Jamie did such a good job of changing perceptions of poetry and the written word. I personally sat in a few sessions and was quite frankly blown away by the creativity, maturity and sensitivity of what our young people created. This is credit to the environment Jamie presented, one where there was no pressure or expectation, just support and encouragement and inspiration.”

Derby County Community Trust (2017)

“We found Jamie to be an excellent choice in a challenging role. He was able to use his own life experience to inter-act with participants on the personal, but respectful, level needed to engender the trust of people living in difficult circumstances. He was highly professional in his attitude to the work and expediting the brief particularly in understanding the limits and boundaries of the role which was crucial to the project’s success. This could also be seen in his attention to detail in the reporting and evaluative aspects of the work which were as important as the creative in-put.”
